The CARO project

Europe counts dozens of millions of companion animals. Too often, their owners do not sufficiently know how to legally and ideally take care of them. Owners can sometimes simply not fulfil the basic needs of their pets. In the worse cases it can lead to suffering and abandonment. It is also the source of uncontrolled stray animal populations.

CARO stands for Companion Animal Responsible Ownership and includes 2 websites : carodog.eu and carocat.eu

The CARO project aims gathering – and where needed creating – scientific knowledge on cats and dogs and promoting responsible ownership in order to help owners and policy makers to make informed choices. In this regards, CARO developed a real expertise and is a reference on Identification and Registration (I&R). The websites also gather useful information on running campaigns, education programmes or events on cats and dogs.
