Spain: VAT on veterinary services and medicines will drop from 21% to 10%

The Congress has passed the Law, although the Popular Party voted against it. In 2012 the VAT for vet services had raised from 8% to 21%. According to a study, in 2014 730 veterinary clinics were closed, partly due to this raise. Representatives of the ERC party, initiator of the action to decrease the VAT, said that the rise imposed by the Popular Party in 2012 may result in a public health problem because many people have failed to go to the vet due to increased costs.
