On October 1, 2017, the Portuguese Animal Party, Pessoas-Animais-Natureza (abbreviated "PAN") won seats in municipal elections in 32 municipalities of Portugal. This means that the party now has a representative in 78% of the municipalities. PAN already had a seat in the Portuguese national parliament and a seat in a regional parliament. In two of the 32 municipalities, PAN had two seats: two in Lisbon and two in Cascais. In the rest of the municipalities, PAN won a seat.
André Silva, the first MP on behalf of PAN, is very pleased with the results: "These results show that NAP plays a key role in change and awareness. They show that more and more people understand our message that a tradition that keeps the suffering and killing of animals at the expense of public money is unacceptable. " (french)
