In an age of vaccine hesitancy, complacency over animal immunisation is a deadly mistake

Wolfgang Dohne, President of the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA) is warning veterinarians and pet owners: we must remember the severity of diseases that we can now control to ensure vaccination rates remain high enough to continue to offer widespread protection. In many ways, vaccination has become a victim of its own success.

The reluctance among a minority to immunise their children is something we are also seeing in veterinary practices among some pet owners, and the repercussions are just as serious.
