Animals on the way of beeing considered as sentient beings in Spain

The coordinator and spokesman of the Parliamentary Association in Defense of Animals (APDDA), Chesús Yuste, expressed his great satisfaction about the unanimous parliamentary agreement voted at the Congress of Deputies during its last plenary session ( 14th February). The votation forces the Government to undertake a reform of the Civil Code so that animals will have the consideration of  sentient beings and not things as it is now.
"I may be optimistic, but I think a new stage for animals in our Parliament began yesterday. Animal protection is definitely on the political agenda. This is clearly visible looking at the different initiatives presented parliamentary groups, and now with the agreement of yesterday afternoon, which is a first stone in this new stage: the reform of the Civil Code, "said Yuste.
