On the occasion of the seizure of 42 puppies by the police on the 8th May, FOUR PAWS calls for an EU-wide mandatory system of identification and registration for all dogs. This is the only way to stop the illegal puppy trade.
The police of Erlangen found the puppies, of the most diverse breeds last Sunday night during a routine control on the A3, in the trunk of a car, packed into tight plastic boxes. The youngest animals were only four weeks old – much too early to be separated from the mother. The 59-year-old veterinarian from the Czech Republic was on his way to Belgium. He was already convicted in 2013 for illegal trade with 78 puppies. (german)
